Job Description

Position Summary

The Superintendent is responsible for managing daily field operations and ensuring construction projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to plans, specifications, and schedules. This role works closely with Project Managers, subcontractors, and the Director of Field Operations to coordinate all phases of on-site work. The Superintendent also mentors and supports Assistant Superintendents to help develop their skills but does not serve in a formal supervisory capacity. The position requires strong communication, organization, and leadership within the jobsite environment, particularly in hospital and healthcare projects where Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) procedures and facility standards apply.

  • Key Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day jobsite operations to ensure projects are completed on schedule and meet quality and safety standards.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers on project planning, material delivery, and subcontractor scheduling.
  • Oversee subcontractor activities to ensure work aligns with project specifications, drawings, and timelines.
  • Act as a working superintendent with the ability to assist in material and product installation in accordance with project drawings and specifications.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals to coordinate labor and material needs for successful project execution.
  • Ensure all field documentation, including permits, drawings, and change orders, are current and properly maintained.
  • Assist Project Manager with tracking and analyzing field costs and schedule progress.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of commercial systems including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, medical gases, and life safety.
  • Monitor safety compliance and maintain a clean, organized jobsite in accordance with company and healthcare facility standards.
  • Lead daily and weekly coordination meetings with subcontractors and project teams.
  • Verify work in progress and completed work for conformance to design requirements and quality standards.
  • Maintain daily project documentation, including logs, photos, and safety reports.
  • Coordinate inspections with facility representatives, vendors, and inspectors as required.
  • Oversee ICRA containment setup, maintenance, and removal in healthcare environments, ensuring adherence to infection control procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with the Project Manager to identify and resolve field issues that could affect schedule or quality.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Assistant Superintendents, helping them gain the experience necessary for independent project management.
  • Communicate regularly with the Director of Field Operations regarding project progress, needs, and potential risks.
  • Promote a positive jobsite culture that emphasizes teamwork, safety, and professionalism.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

 

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical or construction management training preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible construction experience, preferably in commercial and healthcare environments including hospital projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, sequencing, quality control, and major building systems (electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, medical gases, life safety).
  • Knowledge of AHCA (Agency for Healthcare Administration) regulations, ICRA (Infection Control Risk Assessment) standards, and OSHA 10/30 certification or ability to obtain within the first year of employment.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and schedules; effective in coordinating subcontractors and project teams.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated commitment to safety, teamwork, and professional development.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must have strength, balance, coordination, and stamina to perform and oversee work on active construction sites.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing 100 pounds or more.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb stairs or ladders, and work from elevated surfaces for extended periods.
  • Work may occur indoors or outdoors, in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirators, and other gear as needed.

 

Working Conditions

  • Work performed at various construction sites, including hospitals, healthcare facilities, and office environments.
  • Must be able to comply with healthcare facility and infection control requirements.
  • May require early mornings, evenings, weekends, or night shifts as scheduled by project needs.
  • Travel to various project locations may be required.
